The WPT (World Poker Tour) is a series of international poker tournaments introducing most of the world’s trained players. The WPT is putting tournament in the attention and created two different features. Firstly, it is an elite high bets Texas Hold’em tournament representing both professionals as well as amateurs. On the other hand, it is a TV show, planned to hit a huge target audience of beginners.
Both the tournaments and television event are equally exciting. The WPT has increased the popularity of the game all over the world through its tournaments and the WPT television show.
The WPT season starts in July and ends with the WPT Championship in April at the Bellagio in Las Vegas, Nevada. There are fourteen tournaments on the Tour at several places ranging from France, Paris to the mainland USA, to a lavishness ocean cruise.
The only requirement for entering any of these tournaments is showing up with the buy-ins which is generally $10,000.
These are few important rules you want to know about the WPT:
Game Play- The WPT plays no limit Texas Hold’em, which is a very different poker game than the Texas Hold’em games you notice in most casinos and home games, which limit the total of stakes and rises to pre-arranged amounts.
In no limit, any player can stake any amount on any turn. As such, ‘Going all in’, (betting a players whole bankroll in one bet) is a common amount, which makes for a game of unpredictable aggression and exciting.
Increasing blinds- to make a sense of necessity, the blinds in a no limit tournaments increase gradually at pre-determined time gaps. This means that players, who sit back and watch also often risk getting their money management gradually eaten by the rising blinds.
The all-in Factor- Knowing that any player can go all-in on any turn certainly intensifies the decision of whether to play a hand or not, mainly if one or more players has already dynamically moved money into the pot.
In a limit game, especially low limit, it is not rare to see four to five players playing a hand. In no limit, generally only two or three players will competed any given pot and there is lots of nose to nose play.
Fewer players in every hand- partly as of the all-in factors, but also as of the environment of a tournament, there tend to be fewer players competing for every pot in a game like those played on the WPT. By definition, in tournament play, there is a natural attrition of players at the table.
Bankroll Management- knowing how to play the cards is only half the fight in no limit games such as the WPT. The other half of the fight knows how to use your bankroll and how your strategy should alter given how your bankroll matches up with other players.
